STLE Section Awards Scholarship to Princeton University of Pennsylvania Undergraduate Student

L to R: STLE member Bill Tuszynski; Scholarship Awardee Abhiram Karuppur

The Philadelphia Section of the STLE is pleased to award a scholarship to Princeton undergraduate Abhiram Karuppur. Karuppur is entering his senior year, majoring in Chemical and Biological Engineering with a focus on energy and the environment. He has an outstanding academic record, having maintained a perfect 4.0 departmental GPA over his first three years.

Karuppur has participated in industry the last two summers, first at Akzo Nobel, developing and synthesizing polymers for use as rheology modifiers in diesel fuel and other applications. When used in diesel fuel, these polymers effect the fluid dynamics at the fuel injector, increasing combustion and fuel efficiency. His work focused on optimizing reaction conditions to maximize monomer conversion to the desired polymer.

More recently, he interned for a business strategy advisory arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, advising two merging utility companies on how best to optimize their electricity generation portfolio.
