Villanova Graduate Student Receives Section Award
Villanova Mechanical Engineering graduate student Qiuyun Wang was presented with a $1,500 scholarship award from the Philadelphia Section of the STLE. Working under the direction of Prof. Qianhong Wu, Wang’s research is focused on the pressure generation and relaxation in soft porous media. Her work is applicable to many biological phenomena in which the soft porous media plays a key role in generating lift and reducing friction. These include the flow of red blood cells over endothelia surface layers and soft cartilage lubrication in knee joints. In addition to studying macro-scale phenomena, Wang has recently extended the work to investigate lift generation in nano-sized porous media. She has authored three peer-reviewed publications in less than two years, one published in Physics of Fluids and two under review in Physical Review E and Chemical Engineering Science.
The Philadelphia Section of the STLE is pleased to recognize Ms. Wang’s achievements with a $1,500 scholarship.
