Junior Erika Garro, a 4th year BS/MS accelerated degree candidate in Drexel’s Material Science & Engineering Program, has been awarded a rare $1000 undergraduate scholarship from Philadelphia STLE.    Erika has maintained a near perfect GPA (3.93) while taking on leadership roles in student organizations such as the Society of Women Engineers, the Engineering Leadership Scholars, and Drexel’s National Honor Society Fraternity Phi Sigma Pi.  Her mentorship skills and willingness to mentor were noted several times in the letter of recommendation provided with Erika’s application.

Taking full advantage of Drexel’s co-op program, Erika has worked at Estee Lauder, Exponent, and W.L. Gore Company during her first 4 years there.  Her diverse project work during these three assignments included some supply chain optimization studies, failure analyses of medical implants, and the science of coatings.  These experiences as well as coming out of Drexel with an MS in MSE will certainly set Erika apart as she dives into the employment pool in 2024.
