The Philadelphia Section of the STLE pleased to award a $500 scholarship to Widener University Mechanical Engineering major Joshua Witte. Witte is a senior in the 2022-23 academic year and has maintained a 3.56 GPA while taking rigorous math and engineering courses and playing as a center defender on Widener’s men’s soccer team. Professor Abbas Fatah is his academic advisor.
Witte is described as a brilliant student who has both an excellent understanding of theory and the ability to identify new applications. He has good communication skills and can work both independently and in a team setting. He is systematic, diligent, and able to succeed in challenging environments. Witte has been recognized by The National Society of Leadership and Success and the Widener Athletic Leadership Institution.
In addition to his academic work, Witte held a co-op position at Kimberly Clark. In this role, he was able to appreciate the value of lubrication in maintaining the optimal performance and reliability of plant machinery. Witte cited managing wear and friction and understanding failure mechanisms as key elements of a well-run lubricating system.
