Quality Control Technician I

American Refining Group, Inc. delivers specialty refining solutions for a diversified set of industrial market applications. The Quality Department is currently reviewing applications/resumes for a non-exempt Lab Technician I position. This position will report to the Quality Supervisor.

Under minimal supervision, job requirements are as follows:

• Understand and perform routine laboratory test methods to evaluate products for adherence to company standards of both quality and color.
• Understand and perform mathematical calculations, understand units of measure, and validate results.
• Understand test equipment and perform basic maintenance.
• Understand and operate under ISO 9001:2008 Documented Quality System.
• Demonstrated ability of communicating effectively with peers, co-workers, supplier product representatives and supervisors.
• Demonstrated ability of working with and/or providing service to internal and external customers.
• Develop understanding of products and processes.
• Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
• Capable of learning and using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software.

Will be required to work shifts, overtime, holidays, weekends and scheduled time off and/or shift work as required to support plant operations. Job requires sufficient physical strength to move five (5) gallon pails, gas cylinders, sample trays, etc. weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Demonstrated ability to work independently is essential. Flexible in job assignments demonstrating ability to handle several different tasks at one time. Demonstrated ability of understanding and carrying out oral and/or written instructions. Required to follow progression to Lab. Tech II in accordance with training/progression requirements. Preferred candidate will desire to function in a servant leadership culture.

Qualifications: Preferred BS degree in Life/Physical Sciences. Will accept AS degree in Life/Physical Sciences with 1-5 years’ experience. Will accept HS diploma or GED with a strong math/science background and 5-10 years’ experience. American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Technician (CQT) Certificate is desirable. Must possess valid motor vehicle driver’s license. Required to qualify on Forklift and obtain a Forklift license.

Basic technician training may take up to one year and may be on any shift. Full technician training may require three years.
Experience: Laboratory experience preferred. Water Chemistry, refinery and branded lubricant product knowledge a plus. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a p.c. with a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows. Experience with Microsoft Excel beneficial.
