Formulations Chemist- Industrial Lubricants

Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced formulation chemist for the Industrial Lubricants team with the responsibility for supporting Clariant business growth through development of formulations. The position has a special emphasis on creating value for our customers through the development of extensive application and formulation know how using Clariant additives.

Develop an understanding of the application benefits of Clariant products versus competitive products in formulation, and generate data to support value proposition communication to customers.
Plan and perform bench top formulation, application, and compatibility studies.& Present results to internal and external customers in support of business growth objectives.
Keep abreast of customer needs, patent literature, market trends and drivers, to anticipate and test new applications and formulations for Clariant’s products.
Translate customer needs into product innovation from formulations.
Interact and communicate with the North American Business Manager and Technical Leader to meet project timelines and customer technical needs.
Actively serve as technical support for marketing, sales, and external customers.
Foster and maintain relationships to external customers and the market through select customer visits with sales and business line management personnel. This includes participation in trade organizations and conferences.
Work with the global Clariant Innovation Center to evaluate and develop products and projects for select customers.


A team oriented, highly motivated self-starter with minimum 5-8 years formulation experience in the metal working market.
Formulation experience with metal forming and metal removal.& Experience within related applications, such as hydraulics, quenching, metal cleaning, rolling oils and emulsions are a benefit.
Demonstrated knowledge of the industry and key technologies, along with the ability to develop robust formulations.
Desire to improve and solve customer formulation objectives, using strong listening, analytical and problem solving skills.
Proficiency in planning and administering application tests for physical evaluations of formulation stability and compatibility of metalworking formulations.
Flexibility and responsiveness, ability to successfully manage multiple projects with varying timelines and competing priorities.
Comfortable in a hands-on working environment.&
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Enjoy and seek out opportunities to work with peers and customers interactively.

Education and Position Requirements:

Bachelors degree or higher (or equivalent experience) in chemistry or related scientific field
Travel will be in the range of 10%.& Some international travel may be required.
